The tugboat and barge got out of the ice a few days later. Here's the article:

The tugboat and barge got stuck near the Newburgh-Beacon bridge, which is across the river from West Point and near Garrison (the setting of our next book, "Little Chapel on the River.") Both the tugboat and barge eventually made it down river.

The incident may sound surprising: a tugboat and a barge froze in the ice on a river as large as the Hudson? Actually, it isn't all that surprising - large portions of the Hudson, particularly near the banks, freeze fairly often. As far south as Piermont, huge chunks of ice resembling icebergs float down the river!
