Hudson River Blog

Created by a sophomore seminar at Hamilton College, this blog considers the past, present, and future of the Hudson River, once described by Robert Boyle as "the most beautiful, messed up, productive, ignored, and surprising piece of water on the face of the earth."

River Real Estate

The $3.3 million price for this 3 bedroom house is an indication of how the revived Hudson is drawing people back to its shores. So too are the million dollar condos popping up on both sides of the river. Is this trend a good thing?

I was curious to see the house discussed in this article, which sounds beautiful, full of exquisite details. I believe it is the first listing on the Baer-Mcintosh Real Estate website:

Building houses and condos along the Hudson is, for the most part, a good thing, as long as there is also public space along the river and affordable housing available. People are once again becoming attracted to the Hudson and want to live near it, particularly on riverfront property. Large and expensive houses are going to be built, and so provisions should be made to protect the river and human’s access and enjoyment of it. My concerns include maintaining the natural beauty that builders and owners are trying to capture and utilize, minimizing environmental impacts, and keeping property taxes ($30,000 for the above property) from soaring too high.
This question connects to a Feb 20th post entitled “New Plans, New Hope,” about a proposed condo development in nearby Sleepy Hollow.
